Zimbabwe to Host Sri Lanka in White-Ball Series

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has revealed plans for a white-ball series against Sri Lanka, featuring multiple formats, to be held from August 29 to September 7 in Harare. This addition completes their summer schedule.

Sri Lanka’s tour will consist of two ODIs and three T20Is, with all matches taking place at the Harare Sports Club.

This series joins Zimbabwe’s already packed summer, which includes a two-Test series at home against South Africa, a T20I tri-series also featuring South Africa and New Zealand, and another two-Test series against New Zealand.

The series is an important preparation phase for the Zimbabwean team as they gear up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Qualifiers, scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe from September 19 to October 4.

Zimbabwe’s last appearance in the T20 World Cup was in 2022. They did not qualify for the 2024 edition, which was co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

Sri Lanka last played in Zimbabwe during the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers. Their most recent bilateral series in Zimbabwe was in 2016.

ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni stated his anticipation for exciting cricket and emphasized the importance of this series for their T20 World Cup qualification efforts.

“We are pleased to confirm Sri Lanka’s visit for what we anticipate will be a compelling and competitive series,” Makoni mentioned in his statement.

“Matches between our nations have historically been entertaining, and this tour is strategically timed as our team prepares for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign,” he added.
