PSB Enforces New Governance Rules for Sports Federations

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has officially put into effect the new term rules for national sports federations starting 2025. This move introduces stronger governance standards, furthering the National Sports Policy of 2005.

These regulations, effective immediately, are designed to foster greater openness and responsibility in the administration of sports organizations nationwide.

As per the notification, the role of president will be designated as the top position within a federation, and alternative titles like chairman or CEO will not be permitted.

The rules stipulate that no officeholder can be older than 70 years; once they reach this age, their position will automatically be vacated.

Moreover, individuals are prohibited from holding positions in multiple federations concurrently. Federations are required to update their constitutions to comply with these new guidelines within 90 days.

The term rules 2025 limit an official’s service to a maximum of two four-year terms, capping their total time in office at eight years.

If a vacancy occurs mid-term, it must be filled via an election, with the time served counting toward the overall term limit.

Furthermore, any individual who has previously held a high-ranking office cannot run for a lower-level position afterward.

To ensure adherence, the Director General of the PSB is empowered to launch investigations into potential breaches.

Should misconduct be established, the official may face a ban of four to six years, during which they will be ineligible for financial assistance, government grants, facility access, or consultative roles.

Repeated violations may result in lifetime disqualification. The PSB will also keep a central record of disqualified individuals and publish their names on its website.

Individuals penalized under these regulations have the right to submit a written appeal to a panel of adjudicators, who will address such cases according to the code of ethics and governance in sports.

Federations that fail to implement these rules may have their registration revoked and government funding suspended.
