Inflation Rises Slightly: SPI Increases by 0.31%

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) indicated a marginal increase in inflation, rising by 0.31 percent for the week concluding on August 13, 2025. This is compared to a 0.05 percent increase recorded in the prior week.

Price Increases

Significant upticks were observed in the prices of several kitchen staples, including:

  • Tomatoes: 12.62%
  • Chicken: 4.68%
  • Eggs: 2.11%
  • Onions: 1.98%
  • Garlic: 1.60%
  • Wheat Flour: 1.44%
  • Gur (Jaggery): 1.04%
  • Maash (Black Gram): 0.52%
  • Firewood: 0.17%
Price Decreases

Conversely, price reductions were noted for the following items:

  • Bananas: 2.52%
  • Potatoes: 1.65%
  • Pulse Gram: 0.84%
  • Pulse Moong: 0.73%
  • LPG: 0.36%
  • Masoor (Lentils): 0.29%
  • Vegetable Ghee (1kg): 0.10%
  • Salt Powdered: 0.06%
  • Rice Irri-6/9: 0.04%
Market Stability

During the analyzed week, data showed that out of a total of 51 items surveyed, the prices of 17 items (33.33%) increased, while prices for 9 items (17.65%) decreased. The prices for the remaining 25 items (49.02%) remained unchanged.

The year-on-year analysis reveals an overall increase of 2.21%. Noteworthy price surges were recorded for:

  • Gas Charges for Q1: 29.85%
  • Sugar: 22.83%
  • Beef: 13.54%
  • Moong (Green Gram): 13.32%
  • Vegetable Ghee (2.5kg): 11.97%
  • Gur (Jaggery): 11.65%
  • Firewood: 11.41%
  • Vegetable Ghee (1kg): 11.25%
  • Cooked Beef: 8.86%
  • Cooked Daal: 8.22%
  • Diesel: 7.38%
