South Waziristan Blast: Death Toll Climbs
Authorities have confirmed that the number of fatalities resulting from the explosion near a peace committee office in Wana, South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has increased to nine.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imranullah stated that the number of individuals wounded in the blast has also risen to 21.
Dr. Jan Muhammad, Medical Superintendent (MS), reported that 16 injured people are receiving medical care at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Wana.
Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan stated that the explosion happened in close proximity to the peace committee’s headquarters, which led to the deaths of seven people and injuries to 16 others.
Law enforcement sources have indicated that the explosion led to the peace committee office’s total devastation. An official investigation has been launched.
As of now, no entity has claimed responsibility for the act.
A report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicates that Pakistan saw a 42% surge in terrorist attacks during January 2025 compared to the month prior.
The report detailed at least 74 recorded attacks nationwide, causing 91 deaths, which encompassed 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. An additional 117 individuals were wounded, including 53 members of the security forces, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was the most impacted region, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s established regions, militants launched 27 attacks that resulted in 19 fatalities, comprising 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants.
The tribal regions of KP (previously Fata) were the sites of 19 attacks, which resulted in 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
Balochistan also saw an upsurge in militant actions, with at least 24 attacks, which caused 26 fatalities, comprising 11 security personnel, six civilians, and nine militants.
