Weather Update: Rainfall Expected in Sindh

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has indicated that light to moderate rainfall is anticipated across most districts of Sindh, including Karachi, starting August 18.

According to the department, gentle monsoon winds have commenced their entry into eastern Sindh. These winds are projected to gain strength and extend their influence throughout the province beginning August 18.

During this time frame, partly cloudy skies and humid conditions are expected to prevail over a large portion of Sindh.

Authorities have also confirmed that the water levels at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages are currently at normal operating levels.

This weather forecast is issued against the backdrop of widespread devastation and a loss of life exceeding 300 in the northern regions of the country, caused by intense rainfall leading to flash floods and mudslides.

The weather department further mentioned the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, and Kashmir. Moreover, rains are predicted for northeast and south Balochistan, south Punjab, and southeast Sindh during the evening and night hours.

Previously, the PMD had communicated that a monsoon system was likely to enter Sindh via India’s Gujarat region on the night of August 17.
