In a significant move toward revamping seed development and agricultural sustainability in the province, the Sindh Seed Corporation Board held a crucial meeting in Karachi, chaired by Provincial Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mehr. The session included the participation of key board members such as Provincial Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, and several senior officials and technical advisors.
During the meeting, the Managing Director of the Sindh Seed Corporation delivered a comprehensive briefing on the institution’s current performance, highlighting ongoing projects, operational challenges, and production metrics. Board members were presented with an overview of the corporation’s achievements, as well as areas requiring structural and strategic improvements.
One of the most important outcomes of the meeting was the unanimous decision to form a dedicated management board for the Sindh Seed Corporation. This body will be tasked with ensuring transparency, accelerating project implementation, and introducing modern governance practices aligned with national and international agricultural standards.
Provincial Minister Jam Khan Shoro proposed obtaining funding from the Sindh government to establish a state-of-the-art Paddy Processing Plant and Wheat Processing Plant. These facilities, he argued, are essential to enhancing seed quality, reducing post-harvest losses, and increasing the efficiency of seed distribution across the province.
In a forward-thinking approach, it was announced that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sindh Seed Corporation would be appointed based on market-based criteria, ensuring professionalism, merit, and technical expertise in leadership selection. This marks a shift from traditional appointment practices and is expected to significantly improve the corporation’s responsiveness and innovation capacity.
Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mehr further stated that qualified members would soon be appointed to the corporation, bringing in a mix of administrative experience and field-level knowledge. He emphasized that expert suggestions from agricultural scientists and field experts would also be welcomed to introduce modern seed technologies and improve varietal development.
“We want the farmers of Sindh to benefit as much as possible from the services and initiatives of the Sindh Seed Corporation,” said Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, reiterating the government’s focus on farmer welfare, seed accessibility, and increased crop yield.
The meeting reflects a strong political and administrative commitment to enhancing agricultural infrastructure and ensuring that Sindh’s farming community has access to certified, high-quality seeds that are essential for food security and rural prosperity.
This initiative is part of a broader vision to modernize Sindh’s agricultural sector, improve institutional performance, and ensure that government-led seed programs align with both national agricultural policies and the changing needs of farmers in a climate-sensitive era.
