Sindh Government Restricts Gift-Giving and Child Welcomes in Schools

The Sindh government has officially prohibited the practice of presenting traditional ajraks and Sindhi caps as gifts. Additionally, schools are now restricted from using children to welcome guests during official events.

The School Education and Literacy Department issued a formal directive instructing senior officials in government schools and affiliated institutions to “discontinue the custom of presenting ajrak, caps, and other gift items during official gatherings, functions, and ceremonies.”

The notification also stated that the tradition of using children to welcome guests, delegates, and secretariat officers must cease immediately.

Provincial authorities have emphasized the importance of strict compliance with these instructions, ensuring no exceptions are made.

This decision follows Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah’s expressed dissatisfaction with government officials presenting gifts during a ceremony on May 16, which was related to the provision of meals in government schools.
