Atletico Set to Clash with Alaves Following Draw

Following a 1-1 draw against Elche, Atletico Madrid’s coach, Diego Simeone, acknowledged the fans’ discontent as justified. The La Liga match took place at their home ground on Saturday.

Alexander Sorloth gave Atletico an early advantage, scoring in the eighth minute. However, the home side couldn’t maintain their lead for the second consecutive La Liga game. Elche’s Rafa Mir equalized in the 15th minute, preventing Atletico from regaining the lead at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Previously, Simeone’s squad suffered a 2-1 defeat against Espanyol on August 17. Elche, on the other hand, secured their second successive draw, following a 1-1 stalemate against Real Betis at Martinez Valero on August 18.

When questioned about the supporters’ annoyance with the team’s poor showing, Simeone conceded their right to feel that way.

“They are correct in their assessment. We share their sentiments,” Simeone stated.

“We dedicated our efforts to securing a victory but fell short. We are committed to maximizing the capabilities of our players through diligent work. I am confident that with composure, perseverance, and dedication, we will attain our desired results.

“We must remain on our current course. In recent matches, our performance merited better outcomes. It is true that we drew, which is unsatisfactory, and that we aimed for a win, but we are progressing on the necessary path.”

Atletico’s next challenge is a league match against Alaves on Saturday.
