Shoaib Malik Vows to Continue Cricket Career Indefinitely

Veteran Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik has reaffirmed his deep commitment to cricket, stating that he has no plans to retire in the near future.

During a post-match interview following Pakistan Champions’ decisive victory over Australia Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, Malik emphasized the significance of maintaining fitness and his ongoing affection for the sport.

“I maintain a healthy diet and sleeping pattern. I still relish playing on the field, as cricket is my passion. This is how I remain fit,” Malik stated.

When questioned about his retirement prospects, the 43-year-old declared:

“I intend to keep playing cricket until I require a wheelchair,” he affirmed.

A consistent performer in the T20 format, Malik has played in 124 T20Is for Pakistan, accumulating 2,435 runs and securing 28 wickets.

Throughout his T20 career, he has participated in 557 matches, amassing 13,571 runs at a strike rate of 127.24, including 83 half-centuries. He is currently ranked as the fourth-highest run-scorer in T20 history.

In other news, Pakistan Champions delivered an exceptional all-round performance, securing a dominant 10-wicket win against Australia Champions in the 14th match of the WCL 2025 at Grace Road, Leicester, on Tuesday.

After choosing to bowl first, Malik’s decision proved effective as Pakistan dismissed Australia for a mere 74 runs in 11.5 overs.

Spinner Saeed Ajmal was the standout performer, achieving impressive figures of 6/16 in 3.5 overs, dismantling the Australian batting order.

Ajmal received valuable support from Imad Wasim, who claimed 2 for 11 in three overs, while pacemen Sohail Tanvir and Sohail Khan each took a wicket.

Subsequently, Pakistan successfully chased the 75-run target without losing any wickets, with 73 balls remaining.

Sharjeel Khan led the scoring with an undefeated 32 off 23 balls, hitting five boundaries, while Sohaib Maqsood contributed 28 not out from 26 balls, including four fours.

This victory propelled Pakistan to the top of the group stage with four wins and one no result, earning nine points and a net run rate of +2.452.

South Africa secured second place, while Australia finished third. Despite only one win, India qualified for the semifinals, surpassing England and West Indies on net run rate.

The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan semifinal is scheduled for Birmingham on July 31, followed by the second semifinal between South Africa and Australia at the same venue.
