England Concerned Over Shoaib Bashir’s Finger Injury
England’s cricket team is closely monitoring the condition of off-spinner Shoaib Bashir after he sustained an injury to the little finger on his left hand during the third day of the Test match against India at Lord’s.
The incident occurred when the 20-year-old was delivering a ball to Ravindra Jadeja, who responded with a forceful shot directed straight back at the bowler.
The ball struck Bashir’s hand with significant impact, in what initially looked like a potential caught-and-bowled opportunity, resulting in a suspected dislocation.
Bashir promptly signaled to the team’s medical staff for assistance, and Joe Root stepped in to finish the over.
Initially, the team’s management expressed optimism that Bashir would be able to bowl during the evening session. However, he remained on the sidelines with the substitute fielders.
Prior to the commencement of the fourth day’s play, Bashir practiced in the nets, his fourth and fifth fingers heavily bandaged. Doubts persist regarding his ability to bat.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released an official statement concerning Shoaib Bashir’s injury on the morning of the fourth day.
Official Statement
“Shoaib Bashir is being continuously assessed following the injury to his left little finger. He is expected to bowl in the fourth innings of this Test. A decision regarding his batting in the third innings will be determined in due course. His participation in the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford will be evaluated at the conclusion of this match,” the statement read.
Throughout the series thus far, Bashir has claimed nine wickets, averaging 59.44, including the dismissal of KL Rahul on the third day at Lord’s.
Should he be unavailable for the upcoming Test in Manchester, England’s spin options include Liam Dawson, Jack Leach, and Rehan Ahmed.
Head coach Brendon McCullum has indicated that Jacob Bethell is viewed as a backup batter rather than a lower-order all-rounder.
