Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the World Bank’s firm support for Pakistan’s position regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s dedication to international law and resolving regional matters through discussion.

PM Shehbaz made these comments during a meeting in Islamabad with Ousmane Dione, the World Bank Regional Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAAP). Both parties talked about cooperation and restated their commitment to Pakistan’s development objectives, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The statement mentioned that he expressed gratitude to World Bank President Ajay Banga and former World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, Najy Benhassine, for their instrumental roles in developing the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Pakistan.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its aid following the floods in 2022, which enabled Pakistan to start immediate relief efforts and launch reconstruction initiatives.

Ousmane Dione conveyed his gratitude to PM Shehbaz Sharif for the kind welcome he received during his visit. He reaffirmed the World Bank’s dedication to strengthening Pakistan’s partnership and collaboration in major economic sectors.

According to the PMO, Dione recognized Pakistan’s economic recovery and praised the government for guiding the country toward fiscal stability and sustainable progress.
