Sarah Javed Appointed as Sindh’s First Christian Deputy Commissioner
The Sindh government, demonstrating its commitment to an inclusive administration, has appointed Sarah Javed as the first Christian Deputy Commissioner in the province.
Javed’s appointment as the Deputy Commissioner of Sanghar district was formalized through a notification.
The notification issued by the Chief Secretary of Sindh stated, “Ms. Sarah Javed, a PAS (BS-18) officer and Deputy Secretary at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Sindh, is hereby transferred and appointed as the Collector/Deputy Commissioner of Sanghar, with immediate effect and until further orders.”
The notification also indicated that Shehryar Gul, a PAS (BS-19) officer previously holding the additional charge as Collector/Deputy Commissioner of Shaheed Benazirabad, has been relieved of this responsibility.
Earlier, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah met with Hindu community leaders from the Larkana and Sukkur Divisions. During this meeting, he announced that the government had recruited individuals from the Kolhi, Bhil, and Meghwar communities into the Sindh Police, reflecting an inclusive hiring strategy.
He clarified a common misunderstanding regarding the targeting of Hindus in kidnapping cases, noting that in 2024-25, only eight of the 310 reported kidnapping victims were Hindu. He also mentioned that seven of these individuals had been successfully recovered, leaving only one case, involving a person named Rajesh, unresolved.
The Chief Minister also noted that in the current cases, five Muslims have not yet been recovered. He affirmed that the government has significantly reduced kidnappings for ransom.
