Sana Mir Rings the Bell at Lord’s for WTC Final Day 2
LONDON: Sana Mir, the former captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team and recent inductee into the ICC Hall of Fame, had the distinct honor of ringing the bell at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Thursday. This marked the commencement of the second day of the World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa.
The bell-ringing ceremony is a celebrated custom at Lord’s, symbolizing the start of each day’s play in a Test match.
Sana performed the ritual before the day’s play began, signifying the start of what would be another exciting day. Her participation was well-received by cricketers, officials, and spectators present.
Under clear skies, the WTC final between Australia and South Africa proceeded, with Sana’s gesture preceding a captivating day of cricket at the historic venue.
Sana received the bell-ringing honor soon after her induction into the ICC Hall of Fame, acknowledging her outstanding international career. She played in 226 matches for Pakistan and captained the team in more than 100, becoming a pioneer for women’s cricket in the nation.
Sana’s induction into the ICC Hall of Fame occurred just days before, making her the first female cricketer from Pakistan to be recognized. Having dedicated nearly 15 years to Pakistan cricket as an off-spinner, she is also the 14th female cricketer worldwide to join this elite group.
She is the eighth Pakistani cricketer inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, alongside icons like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad, Abdul Qadir, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Younis, and Hanif Mohammad.
