Case Registered Against PPP Leader Farhan Ghani

Karachi law enforcement has initiated legal proceedings against Farhan Ghani, a prominent figure in the PPP and chairman of Chanesar Town, who is also the sibling of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani.

The case was officially lodged at the Ferozabad police precinct following a complaint from Hafiz Sohail, a government employee. Sohail alleges that he was subjected to an assault while overseeing the installation of fiber optic cables on a service road adjacent to Shahrah-e-Faisal on August 22.

The formal complaint identifies Farhan and five of his associates, levying accusations including attempted homicide and violations related to anti-terrorism measures, in addition to other legal statutes.

The PPP leader and town chairman is presently in police custody, though an official confirmation of the arrest is still pending.

According to the complainant’s statement, he was fulfilling his duties as a government employee, supervising the underground fiber cable project, when approximately 20 to 25 individuals, including Farhan Ghani, Qamar Ahmed, and Shakeel, reportedly arrived in a convoy of three vehicles.

The group purportedly accosted Sohail, instructing him to cease the ongoing work and demanding proof of authorization for the road excavation, as detailed in the FIR.

Sohail stated that he informed them that he possessed the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs), emphasizing that the project had received endorsement from all pertinent regulatory bodies.

He further asserted that Farhan’s group proceeded to physically attack him, brandishing weapons with the intent to cause death. Subsequently, they allegedly transported him to a nearby petrol station office where he was subjected to torture, as per the FIR.

The situation was diffused when a police patrol arrived, extricating him from the custody of Farhan’s associates and transporting him to the police station, the FIR further indicates.

In response to the report, Saeed Ghani stated that his brother, along with his accomplices, would be held accountable under the law following the registration of the case against them.

In a statement released in the early hours of Sunday, the minister acknowledged that an altercation had transpired the previous day between Farhan and Sohail.

He noted that Sohail had invoked his legal entitlement by formally submitting an FIR concerning the incident.

The minister affirmed that Farhan and the other individuals implicated would cooperate with the authorities and challenge the allegations in a court of law.

“They will demonstrate their innocence before the court,” the minister asserted.
