Revised Fuel Prices Announced by Federal Government

The federal government has declared a reduction in the prices of numerous petroleum products, effective for the upcoming two-week period, starting August 16 and lasting until August 31. This announcement was made Friday evening. While the price of petrol will remain constant at Rs 264.61 per litre, other fuels will see a decrease.

New Fuel Prices
  • High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Experiencing a price reduction of Rs 12.84 per litre, decreasing from Rs 285.83 to Rs 272.99.
  • Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO): Its price has been cut by Rs 7.19 per litre, moving from Rs 185.46 to Rs 178.27.
  • Light Diesel Oil (LDO): There’s a price drop of Rs 8.20 per litre, shifting from Rs 170.36 to Rs 162.37.
Reasoning Behind the Price Changes

These price adjustments are attributed to a decline in global crude oil prices over the course of the previous two weeks. Specifically, the price of US crude oil has gone down by $5.71 per barrel, going from $69.26 to $63.48. Brent crude also saw a decrease of $5.72 per barrel, sliding from $71.70 to $65.98.

During the last review conducted on August 1, 2025, the petroleum levy was set at Rs78.02 on petrol and Rs77.01 on HSD. Alongside the adjusted petroleum levy, a climate support levy of Rs2.50 per litre is still applicable to both petrol and diesel, contributing to the overall financial burden on consumers.
