Ronaldo and Al-Nassr Nearing Contract Renewal, FIFA President Hints at Club World Cup Possibility

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that conversations are underway regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential participation in the Club World Cup this summer, despite Al-Nassr’s failure to qualify for the competition.

Infantino suggested the 40-year-old Portuguese forward, whose contract ends this summer, might still take part in the revamped tournament.

During a surprise appearance on a livestream with YouTuber IShowSpeed, Infantino alluded to a possible transfer for the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient ahead of the event.

“Ronaldo could be playing for one of the teams in the Club World Cup. Discussions are in progress,” Infantino stated.

“There are ongoing talks with various clubs about Cristiano Ronaldo potentially playing in the Club World Cup. If any club is considering hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup… anything is possible,” Infantino concluded.

The expanded 32-team Club World Cup is scheduled to be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13 and will be the first under FIFA’s new format.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in late 2022 following his departure from Manchester United.

Reports suggest that his current contract with the Saudi Arabian club is expiring this summer, but the involved parties are reportedly close to finalizing an extension.

To facilitate possible squad adjustments, FIFA has established a special transfer window from June 1 to June 10, providing participating clubs a brief opportunity to register new players.
