Rockets Secure Second Place After Victory Over Brave
NOTTINGHAM: Trent Rockets defeated Southern Brave by four wickets in the 15th match of The Hundred men’s competition at Trent Bridge on Saturday, thanks to a rapid half-century from Tom Moores. This win propelled the Rockets to second place in the standings, while the Brave remain in fourth.
After being asked to bat first, Southern Brave scored 140/4 in their 100 balls, with Leus du Plooy scoring a half-century. The left-handed opener led the way for the visitors, scoring 55 from 34 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes.
Du Plooy and Jason Roy shared a 53-run partnership for the second wicket. Roy contributed 23 runs from 23 balls. Following their dismissals, Michael Bracewell and wicketkeeper Laurie Evans added to the Brave’s total with scores of 25 and 28 not out, respectively.
Marcus Stoinis spearheaded the Rockets’ bowling attack, claiming two wickets for 18 runs in his 15-ball spell. David Willey and Callum Parkinson each took one wicket.
Chasing 141, the Rockets reached the target with six wickets down and five balls remaining, largely due to Moores’ aggressive batting. The wicketkeeper-batter was the top scorer for the Rockets, smashing 55 off 30 balls, including four fours and five sixes.
Moores and Tom Banton combined for a crucial 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Banton made a valuable contribution with 49 off 38 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. Rehan Ahmed was the only other Rockets batter to reach double figures, scoring 13.
Jordan Thompson and Tymal Mills each grabbed two wickets for the Brave, while Danny Briggs and Bracewell took one wicket apiece.
With this four-wicket victory, Trent Rockets now have 12 points from four matches in The Hundred 2024, putting them in second place. Southern Brave remain in fourth place with eight points from their four games.
