Rishad Addresses Concerns of Foreign Players Following PSL Suspension

Bangladeshi cricketer Rishad Hossain, who played for Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, issued a formal statement and apology on Saturday. This follows a controversy surrounding his recent remarks concerning the foreign players after the league’s suspension.

Rishad returned to Bangladesh via Dubai after the PSL was halted amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

During a brief conversation with Bangladeshi journalists at Dubai Airport, he discussed the apprehensions voiced by several international players following the tournament’s abrupt termination.

His comments gained widespread attention and sparked criticism, especially after reports emerged that England’s Tom Curran was visibly upset and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell pledged to never return to Pakistan.

Rishad stated, “The international players included Sam Billings, Daryl Mitchell, Kusal Perera, David Wiese, and Tom Curran. They appeared quite anxious and felt that leaving immediately was their best option. Upon arriving in Dubai, Daryl Mitchell reportedly said, ‘I will never come to Pakistan again under these circumstances.’ They were extremely worried.”

However, Lahore Qalandars shared a statement on their social media where the young leg-spinner clarified that his statements were misinterpreted and taken out of context by the media.

“I am aware that a recent remark I made has led to misunderstandings and has, regrettably, been portrayed inaccurately in the media, creating a distorted impression,” Rishad said in the statement.

“The comment occurred during a short interview with Bangladeshi journalists while I was passing through Dubai airport. It lacked comprehensive background and inadvertently exaggerated the sentiments involved,” he continued.

“I sincerely apologize for any confusion caused. I have extended an unqualified apology to Daryl Mitchell and Tom Curran. I have great respect for my fellow players and deeply appreciate the Qalandars brotherhood, where we consistently support each other, regardless of the situation,” he added.

Rishad also conveyed his dedication to rejoining the team when the league resumes: “I am eager to rejoin my team once the PSL restarts.”

The 22-year-old was one of two Bangladeshi players participating in PSL 2025, along with pacer Nahid Rana of Peshawar Zalmi. He made a strong impression in his first season, securing nine wickets in five games.
