James Congratulates Doncic on Lakers Extension

NBA icon LeBron James extended his congratulations to Luka Doncic after he inked a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, as reported by international media outlets on Tuesday.

Following the contract’s signing, James reportedly conveyed his well wishes to Doncic via a video call, prior to Doncic’s participation in a press conference held at the Lakers’ training facility this past Saturday.

Although LeBron was absent from the press conference itself, the video call exemplifies the support James has consistently shown for Doncic.

The Lakers welcomed the 26-year-old superstar from the Dallas Mavericks in February, and James has been a staunch supporter of Luka ever since.

“Luka has been my favorite player in the NBA for quite some time now,” James commented on February 4, subsequent to the Doncic acquisition.

During the regular season, the Lakers achieved a 16-7 record in games where Luka Doncic and LeBron James played together.

When questioned about Doncic’s future prospects following the Lakers’ defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA’s opening round, James expressed his desire for Doncic to remain in Los Angeles.

“I certainly hope he stays for the long haul,” James remarked on April 30.

“Laker enthusiasts adore him here. Los Angeles has embraced him. We cherish him as a teammate, as a brother. Ultimately, however, he must make the decision that is best for him. I won’t be around for much longer.”

Doncic stated on Saturday, after finalizing the agreement, that they possess everything necessary to ‘vie for the championship’ and that he would dedicate himself to winning each game.

“We possess the necessary elements to contend for the championship,” Doncic affirmed.

“I will strive to secure victory in every game, without exception. We have also welcomed several exceptional new players to the team, so we are committed to pursuing it wholeheartedly.”
