Pakistan Receives $3.7 Billion in Remittances in May 2025

According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday, Pakistan’s inflow of remittances from overseas workers reached $3.7 billion in May 2025.

The figures indicate a 13.7% increase compared to the $3.24 billion recorded in the same period last year. When viewed on a monthly basis, remittances reflect a 16% rise from the $3.18 billion reported in April.

The cumulative inflow of workers’ remittances for Jul-May, FY25, totaled $34.9 billion, marking a 28.8% increase relative to the $27.1 billion recorded during Jul-May, FY24.

These remittances are vital in bolstering the nation’s external accounts, energizing economic activities, and boosting the financial resources available to households that rely on these funds.

In April, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad expressed optimism, stating that the robust level of remittances would ensure a current account surplus for the entire fiscal year.

He noted that this would represent the most robust performance in the external account in the last two decades.
