Monsoon Rains Claim Lives and Cause Havoc Across Pakistan

In the last 24 hours, intense rainfall has resulted in at least six fatalities and left five individuals injured throughout the nation. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), this brings the total death count from the monsoon season to 258.

On Thursday, the agency stated that three of the deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where five others were also injured. Rain-related incidents also caused the deaths of two individuals in Islamabad and one in Sindh.

The NDMA disclosed that since the recent monsoon period began, a total of 258 people have lost their lives in Pakistan, and 616 have been injured.

The deceased include 89 men, 46 women, and 123 children. The injured consist of 243 men, 170 women, and 203 children, highlighting the widespread impact of the ongoing weather crisis.

The rains have inflicted substantial damage on property and livestock as well. In the past 24 hours alone, 22 homes were reported destroyed, and 36 livestock animals died. Since the start of the monsoon season, the rains have destroyed a total of 1,027 houses, and 364 animals have died.

Punjab had previously been identified as the worst-affected province, with 139 deaths and 477 injuries, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (60 deaths) and Sindh (24 deaths). Fatalities also include 16 in Balochistan, 6 in Islamabad, 5 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 2 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

A particularly tragic event occurred at Babusar Top, where a cloudburst triggered a deadly flash flood, sweeping away a family attempting to save a three-year-old boy named Abdul Hadi. Among those who perished was Dr. Mishal, who jumped into the torrent to rescue the child.

The NDMA is closely monitoring the situation and advises the public to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines during the ongoing monsoon season.
