Real Madrid Advances in FIFA Club World Cup

MIAMI: Real Madrid secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup after a narrow 1-0 victory against Juventus at Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday.

Kylian Mbappe made his first appearance in the competition after recovering from an illness. Gonzalo Garcia’s header in the 54th minute, assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold, proved to be the decisive goal.

Mbappe’s introduction in the second half drew excitement from the fans, showing Real Madrid’s widespread popularity.

Despite getting into promising positions, Mbappe’s teammates couldn’t quite connect with him, making his appearance more of a fitness exercise.

Juventus began the game energetically, with Randal Kolo Muani and Kenan Yildiz testing Madrid’s defense early on. Kolo Muani almost scored in the seventh minute with a chip shot that went just over the crossbar.

Madrid gradually took command, led by Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde in attack. However, Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio stood out, making several crucial saves to deny the Spanish team.

Although Juventus started strongly, they went into halftime with a 0-0 score, which they likely welcomed given Madrid’s increasing control.

Early in the second half, Di Gregorio again thwarted Bellingham and Dean Huijsen, but he was helpless when García connected with Alexander-Arnold’s cross to score his third goal in the tournament.

Under the guidance of new coach Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid appeared assured and showed attacking desire throughout the game.

Madrid will now play Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-final on Sunday, July sixth. The triumph combined with Mbappe’s return indicates positive progression for the Spanish team as they pursue further success at the FIFA Club World Cup.
