Rawalpindi Police Enhance Security Amid TLP March Plans

Rawalpindi police have amplified security measures throughout the city in anticipation of potential disturbances, following Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) announcement to march towards Islamabad on October 10.

City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Hamdani, presided over a significant meeting with high-ranking police personnel to assess the existing law and order situation.

The police official asserted that any obstruction of roads, interruptions to the flow of traffic, or acts of violence carried out under the guise of demonstration will not be permitted.

The CPO stated unequivocally that any actions impacting the daily lives of the public, resulting in property damage, or involving assaults on law enforcement officials will face strict legal repercussions.

“Those who contravene the law will be dealt with severely,” the CPO cautioned, adding, “Under no circumstances will attacks on citizens’ possessions or law enforcement bodies be condoned.”

In preparation for the planned demonstration, the Islamabad administration has initiated the placement of shipping containers at the Faizabad Interchange—a location historically associated with previous TLP sit-ins, sources have indicated.

Sources reveal that the municipal administration has strategically positioned containers at Faizabad Interchange, a site where the party has previously conducted multiple sit-in protests, with the aim of managing possible unrest. Instructions have also been given to clear out hotels situated along Murree Road and in adjacent localities.

Currently, all routes connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi are operational; any decision regarding their closure will be contingent upon the evolving circumstances.
