Rahaman Ali, Brother of Muhammad Ali, Passes Away
KENTUCKY: Rahaman Ali, the younger sibling of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, died on Friday at the age of 82.
The Muhammad Ali Centre has verified his passing; however, the reason for death has not been revealed.
Born Rudolph Valentino Clay, Rahaman later embraced Islam and adopted his new name. His professional boxing journey commenced in 1964.
Over his eight-year career, he achieved a commendable record of 14 victories, three defeats, and one draw.
While Rahaman did not reach the same levels of fame as his brother, he was important in his brother’s life.
After his boxing career, Rahaman dedicated himself to preserving his brother’s legacy.
In 2014, he collaborated with boxing writer H. Ron Brashear to co-author a book, offering insights into life with ‘The Greatest.’ The book was titled ‘That’s Muhammad Ali’s Brother! My Life on the Undercard’. He then released a second book in 2019 titled ‘My Brother, Muhammad Ali: The Definitive Biography’.
DeVone Holt, President and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Centre, stated that Rahaman’s name is necessary to remember when speaking about Muhammad Ali’s story and legacy.
Holt remarked, “You can’t tell Muhammad’s story without mentioning Rahaman.”
He also mentioned that Rahaman offered continuous encouragement for Muhammad Ali during his boxing career, and their bond exemplified brotherhood.
“He was one of the most constant sources of support for Muhammad during this career, and their relationship was a true example of what it means to be ‘my brother’s keeper.'”
