Raast Processes Over 892 Million Transactions Worth Rs 20 Trillion
Since its introduction, Raast, Pakistan’s pioneering instant digital payment system created by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), has managed more than 892 million transactions, totaling over Rs 20 trillion.
As part of Pakistan Financial Literacy Week (PFLW) 2025, SBP Deputy Governor Saleem Ullah launched the ‘Go Cashless’ initiative at a shopping center in Clifton, Karachi, this past Saturday. The campaign, which was organized with the support of 12 prominent financial institutions, seeks to educate both businesses and consumers on the advantages and uses of digital payment methods, encouraging a move toward a cashless society.
The Deputy Governor of the SBP emphasized that the Go Cashless campaign is more than just an event; it is a component of a larger plan to hasten Pakistan’s transition to a digital economy. He revealed that Raast, the SBP’s core platform, handled 795.7 million transactions worth Rs 6.4 trillion in the second quarter of 2025 while going into detail about important digital payments data.
He noted a remarkable 62% rise in transaction volumes using mobile and internet banking. Since its beginning, Raast has handled more than 892 million transactions for a total of Rs 20 trillion.
Saleem Ullah also mentioned that digital transactions climbed by 35% in FY24, with volumes rising from Rs.4.7 billion to Rs.6.4 billion and values reaching Rs 547 trillion. Furthermore, this Go Cashless event was planned to advance the SBP’s broader goal of increasing financial inclusion and accelerating digital adoption in Pakistan.
The campaign captured the essence of the future of digital payments in Pakistan, which is all about integration, innovation, and inclusivity. The SBP’s aim is for a cash-light economy where digital payments are the favored option for everyone, not just an alternative, from small-scale market vendors to large-scale retail establishments in malls. The SBP is demonstrating to people that going cashless is simple, secure, and empowering through initiatives like this one at a local mall.
