Mehidy Hasan Miraz Joins Lahore Qalandars for PSL 2025 Playoffs
The Lahore Qalandars have secured the services of Bangladeshi all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as a replacement for Sikandar Raza during the playoff stage of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Mehidy, paving the way for his anticipated arrival in Lahore by Tuesday.
The PSL playoffs are scheduled to commence on Wednesday, with the Qalandars set to participate in the Eliminator on Thursday. The identity of their opponent remains to be determined.
In a recent interview, Mehidy conveyed his excitement regarding this opportunity, even with the potential of playing in just a single match.
“Joining Lahore Qalandars is indeed thrilling,” Mehidy stated.
“This marks my second invitation to a franchise league. It presents a valuable chance to compete at an elevated level. The PSL stands out as a premier tournament. My past performances in the BPL give me confidence to deliver my best,” he further commented.
The all-rounder also disclosed his ambition to utilize this period to strengthen his case for a return to Bangladesh’s T20I team.
Currently, he is not included in the squad participating in a T20I series against the UAE in Sharjah or the upcoming five-match T20I series in Pakistan.
“I aim to refine my T20 skills to be prepared for upcoming selection opportunities,” he mentioned. “My clear goal is to rejoin the Bangladesh [T20I] team, and this stint offers a pathway to enhance my abilities in this format.”
At Qalandars, Mehidy will reunite with his compatriot Shakib Al Hasan.
The Qalandars had briefly recalled Sikandar Raza following the PSL’s resumption after a pause caused by border tensions between Pakistan and India. However, he was available for only one match before rejoining the Zimbabwe squad for a Test against England at Trent Bridge.
With David Wiese and Sam Billings unable to return for the remainder of the competition, the Qalandars brought in former Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan and Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa.
Shakib Al Hasan debuted for Lahore Qalandars in PSL 10 on Sunday but faced challenges, getting out for a duck and conceding 18 runs in two overs without taking a wicket against Peshawar Zalmi.
Prior to his arrival, fellow Bangladeshi players Rishad Hossain (Qalandars), Nahid Rana, and Litton Das (Karachi Kings) had participated in the tournament, although Litton withdrew due to an injury.
Despite Shakib’s difficulties, Qalandars maintained their playoff aspirations with a 26-run victory in a rain-affected 13-over match held in Rawalpindi. Fakhar Zaman shone with 60 runs off 36 balls, propelling Qalandars to 149/8.
Zalmi, while chasing 150, faltered and finished at 123/8, with Daniel Sams remaining unbeaten on 26. This loss eliminated Peshawar from playoff contention for the first time in PSL history.
The victory propelled Qalandars to the third spot with 11 points from 10 matches, joining Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, and Karachi Kings in the playoffs.
