11th National Finance Commission Established by President Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari has officially formed the 11th National Finance Commission (NFC) to handle crucial financial discussions between the federal government and the provinces.

The nine-member commission was revealed through an announcement by the Finance Division on Friday. This declaration also marked the end of the 10th NFC, which had been active since July 2020.

According to the official statement, the Federal Minister of Finance will preside over the commission. The finance ministers from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan will participate as official members.

Each province has designated an expert representative, bringing the total number of commission members to nine. Nasir Mahmood Khosa will represent Punjab, Dr. Asad Sayeed will represent Sindh, Dr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan will represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Farman Ullah will represent Balochistan.

The NFC is charged with advising the President on distributing net earnings from federal taxes among the federation and provinces. It will also handle grants-in-aid for provinces, and determine the borrowing authorities for both federal and provincial entities.

Moreover, the commission will consider the division of financial obligations for national projects, inter-provincial efforts, and other financial subjects referred by the President.
