Council of Common Interests Meeting Convened by PM Shehbaz Sharif

At the request of the Sindh government, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a session of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) for today, according to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The meeting, initially planned for May 2, was rescheduled earlier in response to the Sindh government’s appeal.

Memon stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz will preside over the meeting, scheduled to occur this evening in Islamabad.

He further indicated that canal projects will be a primary point of discussion, with expectations of a resolution on the matter today.

During his appearance on a news program, Memon emphasized the consequences of the ongoing demonstrations in Sindh, which have significantly disrupted traffic and impacted commerce throughout the province.

He noted, “The transportation of goods was halted, which negatively affected businesses and farmers, as products could not reach other provinces.”

Despite numerous organizations declaring their intent to continue protests until the CCI makes a decision, Memon conveyed appreciation to the federal government for heeding their request and moving the meeting forward.

He added that the administration is committed to dialogue and anticipates that the protests will cease following the CCI meeting’s conclusion.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, accompanied by other officials, will represent the province at today’s CCI gathering.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
