Swat Madrassa Incident: Accused Presented in Court
Muhammad Umar, the primary suspect, and his son Ihsan were brought before the court on Tuesday regarding the murder of a 14-year-old boy. The boy tragically died earlier this month, allegedly due to torture at a madrassa located in Chaliyar, Khwazakhela.
The court has granted the police a three-day remand for both defendants to facilitate further inquiry into the matter.
Unregistered Seminary Sealed
Earlier on Tuesday, authorities took action by sealing an unregistered seminary in Swat. This action followed the death of the 14-year-old student, reportedly subjected to abuse by a teacher, as confirmed by District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Umar.
Reports indicate the young boy was assaulted by instructors at the Khwazakhela madrassa. Fellow students and staff members promptly transported him to a nearby medical facility. However, upon arrival, medical professionals declared him dead.
History of Abuse Allegations
Previous reports suggest that physical mistreatment had been a consistent problem at the religious school, with multiple students allegedly experiencing violence in recent months.
DPO Umar verified that the teenager’s death resulted from the teacher’s alleged violent actions. He also mentioned that two of the four individuals named in the initial complaint have been apprehended. Additionally, nine more individuals have been taken into custody concerning this case.
He further noted that the seminary lacked official registration and has since been closed by authorities.
