Karachi Braces for Rain and Thunderstorms
Karachi is expected to experience rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, on Monday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall through Tuesday, which should provide some respite from the intense heat.
The weather forecast indicates that Karachi will likely have hot and humid conditions over the next 24 hours, along with partly cloudy skies. The highest temperature could reach 37 degrees Celsius, with a current humidity level of 72%. The city’s wind speed has been measured at 18 km/h.
The PMD also mentioned that scattered rainfall is possible across the city, varying from light to moderate.
Earlier forecasts noted a westerly wave affecting the country’s upper and central regions, expected to persist through Sunday and Monday. Most parts of the country were predicted to have mainly hot and dry conditions, with very high temperatures in plain areas.
However, some areas, including North-East and South Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and South-East Sindh, North-East Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, might experience partly cloudy weather with dust-storm-rain/thundershowers at isolated locations.
Several cities, such as Gujrat, Mangla, Sialkot, Islamabad, Murree, Mir Khani, Kalam, Dir, Drosh, Rawalakot, and Gupis, have already received rainfall.
Turbat and Pasni recorded the highest maximum temperature on Saturday, with mercury levels reaching 49°C.
The average Air Quality Index (AQI) in Karachi was 112, while the PM2.5 concentration was eight times higher than the World Health Organisation (WHO) annual guideline value.
