ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to launch the first phase of the Prime Minister’s Fan Replacement Programme by the end of this month, as Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb directed authorities to finalize all preparations within the next two to three weeks.

In a high-level meeting held to assess the programme’s readiness, the minister emphasized the initiative’s critical role in reducing energy consumption, encouraging financial inclusion, and strengthening economic stability. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders from the Finance Division, Power Division, State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Banks’ Association, and other relevant institutions.

The programme, which aims to replace conventional AC fans with energy-efficient DC fans, will be implemented through a repayment model via consumers’ electricity bills. This innovative approach is expected to make energy-saving technology accessible to the general public while easing the financial burden of upfront costs.

Stakeholders presented updates on major operational milestones, including the finalization of agreements with participating banks and the integration of digital banking systems. The National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA), in collaboration with the Punjab Technology Investment Board and Power Information Technology Company, is leading the digital and administrative rollout.

Minister Aurangzeb reiterated the Prime Minister’s commitment to making this programme a national success, highlighting its potential to shift consumer behavior toward sustainable practices, improve power sector efficiency, and deliver long-term economic benefits.

Appreciating the collaboration of the banking sector and technology providers, he instructed that the initial batch of banks and relevant technological systems be fully prepared to ensure a seamless programme launch by month-end.

The session concluded with a unanimous commitment from all departments to uphold the government’s energy sector reform agenda, ensuring timely and effective implementation of the fan replacement programme.
