PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award: Nominees Announced
Liverpool’s star forward, Mohamed Salah, and his teammate Alexis Mac Allister have both received nominations for the 2024-25 Men’s Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year award.
The award, determined by votes from fellow players at the conclusion of each season, will be presented on August 19 at the Manchester Opera House.
Other prominent nominees include Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United, Declan Rice of Arsenal, Alexander Isak representing Newcastle United, and Cole Palmer from Chelsea, all recognized for their impactful performances.
Salah, recently securing a two-year extension with Liverpool, showcased his prolific form by scoring 29 goals and delivering 18 assists. This achievement equals the record of 47 goal involvements in a Premier League season, previously attained by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer during a 42-match campaign, later reduced to 38 games from 1995-96.
The Egyptian international was pivotal in Liverpool’s successful 2024-25 season, where they finished comfortably ahead of Arsenal by 10 points.
Isak of Newcastle trails Salah by six goals, having scored 23, while Manchester City’s Erling Haaland concluded the season with 22 goals. Palmer from Chelsea contributed 15 goals and eight assists to his team’s efforts.
Salah, a previous winner in 2017-18 and 2021-22, is considered a frontrunner for the award this year. He notably became the first player to secure the Premier League’s Golden Boot for top scorer, the Playmaker award for most assists, and the Player of the Season award in a single term. He has also been honored with the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year accolade.
Additionally, Salah now jointly holds the record for the most Golden Boot awards (four) alongside former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry. He also stands as the first player to achieve the Golden Boot-Playmaker double twice, having first accomplished this in 2021-22.
