Iranian President to Visit Pakistan
Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on August 2 (Saturday) for a two-day official visit, according to his political advisor, as reported by Iran’s IRNA news agency on Wednesday.
Mehdi Sanai, the Political Advisor to the Iranian President, announced via X that “Dr. Pezeshkian will be in Pakistan on Saturday evening, August 2, at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.”
The advisor stated that the president’s itinerary includes formal meetings and discussions with figures from the cultural and business sectors. He highlighted that “relations between the two nations encompass political, economic, religious, and cultural aspects.”
An additional objective of the visit is to enhance provincial and border cooperation, as well as to increase trade beyond the current $3 billion mark, the advisor noted.
Pezeshkian’s visit marks the second time an Iranian president has visited Pakistan in the span of two years. The visit was initially planned for the last week of July.
In April 2024, Ebrahim Raisi conducted a three-day formal visit to Pakistan, which took place just a month before his passing in a helicopter accident.
Earlier in May, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a two-day bilateral visit to Iran as part of a regional tour to allied nations, where he showed appreciation for their backing during the conflict with India.
During the two-day engagement, the Prime Minister engaged with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian president.
Discussions centered on Pakistan-Iran relations, specifically focusing on boosting trade, enhancing regional connectivity, and addressing regional issues, with gratitude expressed for Iran’s efforts to maintain regional peace during the conflict imposed on Pakistan.
Both parties also explored ways to strengthen strategic alliances between their respective countries, alongside urging an immediate end to Zionist oppression in Gaza and securing a sustainable and lasting ceasefire.
Prior to this, he had journeyed to Iran in May 2024 to participate in the memorial service for former President Raisi.
