PCB Asks Mentors to Resign Amidst Restructuring
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially informed Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed that their mentoring services are no longer needed, requesting their resignations.
Their salaries have been suspended, and while some might be considered for different positions, the PCB has stated that the present mentorship structure will be dissolved.
Despite this instruction, the mentors are reportedly hesitant to resign voluntarily, preferring official termination from the PCB, which would entitle them to a severance payment equivalent to about four months’ salary, estimated at approximately 20 million rupees.
However, the PCB seems unwilling to take that particular action.
Saqlain Mushtaq is currently in England, and Waqar Younis is reportedly awaiting formal notification from the board.
All four mentors received considerable compensation; however, the results during their tenure were unsatisfactory. Instead of actively contributing on the field, some were more frequently seen on television, often voicing criticism of PCB policies.
Meanwhile, seasoned all-rounder Shoaib Malik has already tendered his resignation.
Sources suggest that Misbah and Sarfaraz may receive new contracts, potentially involving assignments with Pakistan Shaheens, the Under-19 team, and various regional academies.
Mohammad Yousuf will assume a coaching position at the National Cricket Academy. Additionally, Asad Shafiq will be removed from the national selection committee and reassigned as a coach at a regional academy, while remaining on the women’s selection panel.
According to sources, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has dedicated time to thoroughly understanding the cricketing framework and has now assumed complete command. He is believed to have gained a strong understanding of the internal dynamics and politics among former players.
The PCB’s annual budget of 2 billion rupees, formerly designated as “Champions,” will now be reallocated to cricket development projects.
