PCB Announces Trials for U19 and Emerging Women Cricketers
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced trials for U19 and Emerging women’s cricketers, scheduled to take place from August 21 to September 3. This initiative, revealed on Saturday, aims to scout fresh talent for the national squad.
According to the PCB, these trials are an integral component of a two-week talent identification program and will span eight cities, including major hubs like Karachi and Lahore.
Eligibility Criteria
For the U16 trials, participants must have been born on or after September 1, 2006, with the minimum age requirement being 12 years. There is no specific cutoff date stipulated for emerging players, allowing a broader range of talent to be considered.
Trial Schedule and Locations
The trials are set to begin at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi on August 21. Subsequently, they will move to the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground on August 25.
The remaining cities selected to host the trials include Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Quetta, Multan, and Bahawalpur, ensuring nationwide representation.
Post-Trial Opportunities
Following the trials, the selected cricketers will undergo mentoring and training programs. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a four-team women’s U19 Tournament, which is planned for September and October of this year.
Following this tournament, a Pakistan U19 squad will be formed, with a scheduled tour to Bangladesh later in the year.
Selection Committee
The national women’s selection committee, which includes former Pakistan women’s player Batool Fatima and former Test cricketer Asad Shafiq, will oversee the trials across all eight cities. They will be supported by regional coaches to ensure a comprehensive and fair selection process.
