PCB Announces New Committee to Reshape Domestic Cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has declared the establishment of a five-member committee focused on reforming the nation’s internal cricket structure. The announcement was made on Friday.

Reports indicate that this newly assembled group does not have an appointed head and lacks representation from departmental cricket organizations, which has stirred concern among cricket enthusiasts.

This initiative marks another attempt by the PCB to revamp the domestic cricket framework. The previous year saw the introduction of considerable modifications, such as the inauguration of the Champions Cup and tournaments among colleges.

However, these introductions led to the removal of established competitions like the National One-Day Cup and national junior events. The junior tournament faced significant disruption when it was stopped after just one day and has not been restarted.

The media has reported that the new panel consists of highly esteemed figures from cricket administration and former players.

Bilal Afzal, a data analyst formerly part of the national selection panel and current advisor to the PCB Chairman, is among the appointees.

Wahab Riaz, previously a Test bowler and national selector, is also on the committee. He is currently the senior manager for the Pakistan cricket team and director of the Champion Cup.

Aaqib Javed, who recently resigned as interim head coach of the national team, is another member.

Syed Sumair Ahmed, the Chief Operating Officer, and Khawaja Nadeem Ahmed, President of the Lahore Region Cricket Association, complete the lineup.

Noticeably absent are Khurram Niazi, PCB Director of Domestic Cricket, and Senior GM Junaid Zia, both influential figures in domestic cricket.
