Paul Craig Addresses Last-Minute Fight Cancellation at UFC Vegas 106
Scottish MMA fighter Paul Craig has finally spoken about the sudden cancellation of his anticipated match against Rodolfo Bellato at UFC Vegas 106. The fight was scheduled as the co-main event last Saturday.
The bout was cancelled just before it was set to commence due to what was initially described as a “medical issue.” Craig, who was already preparing backstage, learned that Bellato had been removed from the card.
Bellato later explained on social media that a skin infection, specifically herpes, was the reason for the cancellation.
Craig had been silent on the matter until Monday evening when he discussed the incident with UFC commentators Michael Bisping and Paul Felder.
“Hunter Campbell walks in, and I thought, ‘That’s quite unusual,’” Craig stated.
“I was wondering why he was there, as he usually doesn’t come to wish me good luck,” he added.
Craig expressed his disappointment regarding the late cancellation and shared his feelings from backstage.
“It’s difficult when you’re prepared for something. I felt frustrated and just wanted to lash out. I had put in a lot of effort for this fight, and then it was all taken away.”
“Hunter came in and said, ‘Your opponent has withdrawn due to a skin infection.’ It’s tough. Have you ever experienced being ready to walk out, like within 30 minutes?”
“It feels surreal. You feel frustrated and want to strike out. All the effort you’ve invested up to that point feels like it’s been wasted,” he concluded.
