Pakistan Squads Under Review for South Africa Series

LAHORE: As Pakistan gears up to host South Africa for a white-ball series from October 28 to November 8, adjustments to the national squads are being considered. Sources indicate that deliberations are in progress to finalize the teams.

Expected Changes in T20I Squad

About two to three modifications are anticipated in the T20I lineup. Discussions are primarily focused on evaluating the team’s performance during the recent ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025. Selectors and team management are collaborating to determine necessary changes.

Salman Ali Agha’s Performance Assessed

The performance of T20 captain Salman Ali Agha is reportedly under examination. The all-rounder’s contributions, both in leadership and batting, have not met the desired standards. The potential inclusion of seasoned players and new talent is being evaluated to enhance the team’s strength for the upcoming series.

Possible Adjustments to ODI Squad

The ODI squad may also see minor changes. However, final decisions are still pending.

Test Squad and Series Details

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) previously revealed the national Test squad for the two-match series against South Africa, starting October 12 in Lahore. The initial 18-member squad was trimmed to 16 after the release of uncapped spinner Faisal Akram and all-rounder Aamir Jamal.

  • Shan Masood will remain the Test team captain.
  • Asif Afridi and Rohail Nazir, both uncapped players, have been included in the squad.

This series marks the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years and signifies the commencement of Pakistan’s ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 campaign. The first Test is scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from October 12 to 16, followed by the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 20 to 24.

This series is South Africa’s first Test series in Pakistan since January 2021, where they were defeated 2-0. Following the Test matches, a three-match T20I series will take place from October 28 to November 1, with the first match in Rawalpindi and the subsequent two in Lahore. The tour will conclude with a three-match ODI series from November 4 to 8, all hosted at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
