Pakistan’s Independence Day Celebrated in New Delhi
The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi commemorated the 78th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence with patriotic enthusiasm on Wednesday.
The ceremony, held on the Chancery Lawns, featured Saad Ahmad Warraich, Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires to India, raising the national flag.
The high commission’s personnel, their families, and officers were present. Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar were shared during the event.
The Chargé d’Affaires, while recognizing the heroic struggle for freedom, noted that the Muslims of the subcontinent, under the effective guidance of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, shaped history by establishing an independent homeland. Pakistan, he stated, represented the fulfillment of a remarkable quest for self-determination.
He emphasized that the independence movement’s key lesson is that freedom requires constant effort, achieved through the sacrifices of numerous individuals.
Warraich asserted that freedom should be continuously protected. He further stated, “Pakistan is fully capable of protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity from any external threat or aggression, as demonstrated by recent events.”
The Chargé d’Affaires highlighted Pakistan’s significant progress in development and prosperity over the past 78 years.
He applauded the brave sacrifices made by the nation’s protectors, who dedicated their lives to defending the country and its honor.
Warraich reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace and stability, stating that it can be attained through equal sovereignty, mutual respect, and resolving conflicts, including Jammu and Kashmir, peacefully.
He suggested that a perspective centered on discourse and diplomacy could usher in a promising future for South Asia. He cautioned that strategies founded on controlling ideas of dominance would impede regional advancement and growth.
The Chargé d’Affaires added that children, attired in traditional clothing, put on touching performances portraying different facets of the freedom movement.
To commemorate the occasion, the chargé d’affaires and his wife, along with other mission officials, jointly cut a special cake.
