Waqas Maqsood Announces Retirement from International Cricket
LAHORE: Left-arm fast bowler Waqas Maqsood from Pakistan declared his departure from international cricket on Thursday, concluding his somewhat short but significant international tenure.
The 37-year-old cricketer represented Pakistan in a single Twenty20 International match in November 2018 against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS).
He achieved the distinction of becoming the 80th player to represent Pakistan in the T20 format, making an impact by securing 2 wickets for 21 runs in just 1.5 overs bowled.
His wickets included New Zealand’s fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and all-rounder Seth Rance, both dismissed within a sequence of five deliveries.
Born in Faisalabad, Maqsood had a successful domestic career that extended for over a decade. From 2011 to 2023, he participated in 81 first-class matches, 56 List A games, and 68 T20 games.
In first-class cricket, he captured 294 wickets with an economy rate of 3.12, which included 11 instances of taking five wickets in an innings. Additionally, he claimed 87 wickets in List A matches and 77 wickets in domestic T20 games.
Maqsood was a part of Islamabad United and Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he played in 20 matches and took 27 wickets, maintaining an average of 22.40.
