US President Announces Pakistan Trade Delegation Visit

President Donald Trump stated on Friday that representatives from Pakistan are scheduled to visit the United States in the coming week. This visit occurs as Pakistan seeks to negotiate an agreement regarding tariffs.

Pakistan could face a potential 29% tariff on its exports to the United States due to a $3 billion trade surplus with the U.S. These tariffs were initially announced by Washington last month, targeting several countries worldwide.

President Trump clarified that he would not be inclined to finalize any agreement with Pakistan or India should they engage in armed conflict. The two nations, both possessing nuclear capabilities, recently experienced heightened tensions involving fighter jets, missiles, drones, and artillery, marking a significant escalation in decades.

“As you know, we’re very close making a deal with India,” Trump commented to reporters at Joint Base Andrews upon his departure from Air Force One.

Recently, Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal was in Washington to facilitate trade discussions. Both countries aim to finalize an interim agreement by early July.

India may encounter 26% tariffs on its exports to the US.

Last week, it was reported that India is considering allowing US companies to bid on contracts exceeding $50 billion, primarily from federal entities, amidst ongoing trade negotiations with Washington.
