Hasan Ali Reaffirms Commitment to Test Cricket

Pakistani fast bowler Hasan Ali has restated his dedication to Test cricket, affirming that he has no intentions of retiring from the format, even if it requires him to step back from T20Is and ODIs in the future.

In a recent discussion with a local sports outlet, the 31-year-old bowler underlined his strong passion for Test cricket, describing it as the most authentic and demanding form of the sport.

“Test cricket is what I love most. If I ever need to retire from T20s and ODIs, I wouldn’t consider giving up Test cricket as long as my fitness allows,” Hasan declared.

Since his international debut in 2016, Hasan has played for Pakistan in all three formats.

However, his appearances have been largely limited to white-ball cricket recently, indicating a possible shift in career direction guided by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Despite this, the right-arm bowler is determined to pursue his red-ball aspirations.

“My responsibility is to perform well,” he stated. “Whether I am selected is a decision for the PCB, the captain, and the team management.”

Notably, Hasan has participated in 24 Test matches for Pakistan, securing 80 wickets and scoring 382 runs.

His most recent Test appearance was during Pakistan’s tour of Australia in January 2024, in the Sydney Test.

Currently, Hasan is not included in the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, set to commence on July 20 at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

Reports suggest that his exclusion is temporary, as he continues his stint in the County Championship in England.

Hasan is presently playing for Warwickshire in the ongoing men’s Vitality Blast 2025, where he is performing exceptionally well, ranking as the third-highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets in nine matches, maintaining an economy rate of 8.43.

He made a significant comeback to the national team during a recent T20I home series against Bangladesh, where he emerged as Pakistan’s top wicket-taker.

Ali took eight wickets in three matches, including a five-wicket haul, with an economy rate of 9.53.

Sources also suggest that selectors may consider Hasan for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, scheduled for August.

The Pakistan squad is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on July 16, with the T20I matches planned for July 20, 22, and 24 in Dhaka.
