Pakistan Triumphs Over Iran to Secure Asian U16 Volleyball Championship Title

LAHORE: In acknowledgment of their momentous victory at the Asian U16 Volleyball Championship, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has declared a monetary reward of Rs 8.2 million for the Pakistan under-16 volleyball team along with their coaching personnel.

The young squad garnered considerable attention by securing the continental championship, prompting the PSB to promptly recognize their accomplishment via its 2024 cash award guidelines.

According to a PSB representative, each of the 12 players on the championship-winning team will be granted Rs 600,000, totaling Rs 7.2 million.

The policy dictates that 30 percent of the team award in continental competitions is allocated as an individual prize for each gold medal-winning player.

Furthermore, Rs one million has been designated for the coaching staff, who are entitled to 50 percent of the team’s overall award value under the prevailing regulations.

Notably, Pakistan achieved a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 triumph against defending champions Iran to claim the AVC Asian men’s U16 Volleyball championship at the Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium on Saturday.

Pakistan’s path to the final was noteworthy, commencing their campaign with a 3-0 victory over South Korea (25-16, 25-19, 25-8), which was succeeded by a convincing showing against Saudi Arabia (25-14, 25-13, 25-11).

During their third group encounter, they upheld their unblemished record by overcoming Chinese Taipei in straight sets (26-24, 25-14, 25-16).

The Pakistani team prolonged their undefeated sequence in the initial crossover round with a 3-0 result against Indonesia.

The national U16 team ultimately confirmed their participation in the final by recording a decisive 3-0 victory against rivals India in the semi-final on Thursday.

The Green Shirts delivered a dominant performance, prevailing in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-12. Pakistan surpassed India in all facets of the game, including attack, block, and service, to secure a decisive win.
