Pakistan Denies Zelensky’s Allegations of Nationals’ Involvement in Ukraine Conflict

Islamabad, responding to recent claims, has firmly refuted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s assertions regarding Pakistani citizens’ participation in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Foreign Office (FO) conveyed a strong rejection of what it described as “baseless and unfounded” accusations, emphasizing the absence of any convincing evidence to support such claims.

The FO’s reaction follows President Zelensky’s statement alleging that Ukrainian forces in the northeastern region of Ukraine have encountered foreign fighters, identified as “mercenaries,” originating from various countries, including China, Pakistan, and African nations. Zelensky vowed a response to these alleged foreign combatants.

Previously, Zelensky had accused Moscow of enlisting Chinese individuals to bolster its military efforts against Ukraine, accusations that Beijing has refuted. Additionally, there have been claims of North Korean troop deployment in Russia’s Kursk region.

Zelensky stated in a post on X, following a visit to a frontline area in the Kharkiv region, that commanders had briefed him on the frontline situation, the defense of Vovchansk, and the dynamics of the battles. He further claimed that their soldiers in this sector were reporting the involvement of mercenaries from China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and African countries in the war, promising a response.

The Foreign Office, in its statement, asserted that the Government of Pakistan vehemently denies the unfounded allegations concerning the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the Ukraine conflict. The FO added that Pakistani authorities have not been formally contacted by their Ukrainian counterparts, nor has any tangible proof been presented to validate these assertions.

The statement also indicated that the government intends to address the matter with Ukrainian authorities, seeking clarification on the accusations. Islamabad reiterated its dedication to achieving a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict through diplomatic means and dialogue, adhering to the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter.
