Monsoon Season 2025: PMD Forecasts Diverse Weather Conditions

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its detailed weather predictions for the approaching monsoon season in 2025, indicating varied conditions across the nation, including potential floods in some areas and higher-than-usual temperatures elsewhere.

The PMD has advised authorities to activate emergency response centers and guarantee the readiness of rescue teams to tackle the season’s anticipated difficulties.

The weather agency anticipates normal to slightly above-normal rainfall in the central and southern regions. Heavier rainfall is expected in northeastern Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where excessive precipitation is probable.

Conversely, northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are forecast to experience typical to somewhat below-average rainfall.

The meteorology department stated, “The monsoon’s initial phase is particularly expected to deliver substantial rainfall.”

The PMD also revealed that Pakistan’s average temperature is anticipated to be higher than normal from July through September. Temperature increases are especially expected in AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and KP.

The predicted rise in temperature in KP and Gilgit-Baltistan could speed up snowmelt, potentially increasing river water levels.

The Met Office has issued strong warnings about the possibility of flooding as a result of this.

Significant rainfall might cause floods in major rivers, endangering the plains and highlands of Sindh, Punjab, AJK, and KP to inundation.

Northern Punjab, AJK, and KP are particularly vulnerable to flooding because higher temperatures in the northern regions are expected to exacerbate the danger by potentially raising river levels.

The Met Department also warned of the potential of strong winds, dust storms, and hailstorms as a result of temperature variations, in addition to rainfall and temperature.

The abundant rains are predicted to benefit the country’s water supplies, ensuring ample water for irrigation and energy, despite the problems.

The rains will also aid in the replenishment of water reservoirs and groundwater supplies.

Given the comprehensive forecast, the PMD has urged provincial and district authorities to activate emergency operation centers to ensure the prompt deployment of rescue teams throughout the monsoon season.

It also emphasizes maintaining intimate contact with local governments for evacuation procedures and prompt warnings.

The PMD advised, “Citizens in Karachi and other impacted areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains for their safety.”
