Pakistan has launched a National One Health Units initiative to strengthen disease surveillance, improve coordination across health sectors, and enhance preparedness against health emergencies. Established through a two-day national consultation in Islamabad, the program brings together experts from human health, animal health, and environmental sectors to promote integrated monitoring and rapid response mechanisms.

The initiative focuses on creating a unified framework for disease reporting and joint investigations into zoonotic outbreaks. Provincial and federal representatives collaborated to develop a structured implementation plan, standardized training, and integrated information systems to support real-time data sharing and coordinated action during health crises.

This One Health strategy marks a major advancement in Pakistan’s public health system, prioritizing multi-sectoral synergy to detect, prevent, and contain emerging health threats, while enhancing collaboration among veterinary services, wildlife sectors, and environmental authorities. It positions Pakistan to proactively defend against future pandemics and reinforces its commitment to global health security.
