Pakistan Condemns Israeli Aggression Against Iran
On Friday, Pakistan voiced strong condemnation of what it described as “unjustified and illegitimate” aggression by Israel directed towards Iran.
The Foreign Office issued a statement asserting that the Israeli military actions infringed upon Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement emphasized that these actions are in clear violation of the UN Charter and the core tenets of international law.
The FO statement declared, “Iran possesses the right to self-defence as enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter.”
Reports indicate that Israel initiated extensive strikes within Iran, purportedly targeting facilities associated with nuclear activities, ballistic missile production, and the command structure of the military. Israel has characterized this as the beginning of a sustained effort to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Iranian media sources, along with eyewitness accounts, have reported explosions, notably at Natanz, the country’s primary uranium enrichment site. In response, Israel has reportedly declared a state of emergency, anticipating potential retaliatory actions involving missiles and drones.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards corps reported the death of their top commander, Hossein Salami, and state media indicated that the unit’s headquarters in Tehran had been struck. Reports also mentioned that several children were killed in a strike affecting a residential area within the capital.
In response to the strikes, Pakistan conveyed its unwavering support for the Iranian people and strongly denounced what it views as overt provocations. Pakistan warned that these actions pose a significant threat to peace, security, and stability within the region and potentially beyond, carrying grave implications.
The statement concluded by asserting, “The international community, including the United Nations, holds the responsibility to uphold international law, to immediately halt this aggression, and to ensure that the aggressor is held accountable for their actions.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also condemned the “unjustified Israeli attacks,” terming them a blatant violation of Iranian sovereignty.
In a post on X, he stated, “This abhorrent action has shaken the very foundations of international law and the conscience of humanity, and gravely undermines regional stability & int’l security.”
He affirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian government and its people.
