Pakistan to Participate in 13 Test Matches in Current WTC Cycle

The path ahead for Pakistan in the new ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle appears increasingly demanding, presenting fresh obstacles for the team.

Over the course of the next two years, the national team is scheduled to engage in six Test series, divided between home and away fixtures, encompassing a total of 13 Test matches.

Notably, Pakistan will not compete in any Test series against Australia or India during this period. The most recent Test series between Pakistan and India took place in 2007. Furthermore, there are no scheduled Test matches against Afghanistan or Ireland.

Looking ahead from 2025 to 2027, Pakistan is set to participate in a three-Test series against England. The remaining five series will each be composed of two Test matches.

Since the inception of the WTC, the Pakistan team has faced consistent struggles and has yet to secure a spot in the final.

In the most recent cycle, Pakistan concluded in ninth position, managing to win only five out of 14 Tests while losing nine.

Currently, Pakistan is pursuing a strategy of establishing specialized squads tailored to each of the three formats of the game.

Presently, the primary challenge revolves around the appointment of a captain and head coach for the Test format.

Pakistan’s upcoming Test series is at home against South Africa in approximately four and a half months. Following this, in March of the upcoming year, the team will tour Bangladesh for a series of two Tests.

In July 2026, Pakistan will engage in two Test matches in the West Indies, succeeded by a three-Test series in England during August and September.

Later, in November 2026, Sri Lanka is slated to visit Pakistan for a two-Test series, and in March 2027, New Zealand will participate in two Test matches in Pakistan.

The 2025–27 edition of the WTC is scheduled to commence on June 17, merely two days following the 2025 final, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh competing in Galle.
