China Reaffirms Strong Ties with Pakistan, Praises Military’s Role
China has restated the strength of its relationship with Pakistan, recognizing the Pakistani military as a vital force for stability in the region and a reliable partner in bolstering China-Pakistan relations.
Following a meeting on August 21 between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Chinese Foreign Ministry released a statement commending the role of Pakistan’s armed forces.
“[The] Pakistani Army stands as a pillar of national stability and a strong guardian of Pakistan–China friendship and cooperation,” the statement read.
Wang Yi also noted that the Pakistani military leadership has consistently been instrumental in strengthening the ties between the two nations.
“The Pakistani Army has consistently demonstrated strong support for the implementation of key consensuses reached by the leaders of both countries,” the Chinese foreign ministry reported, quoting Wang.
Addressing broader strategic considerations, the Chinese FM underscored the importance of the partnership amid evolving global dynamics:
“Amid increasing global uncertainties, the promotion of robust Pakistan–China relations is significantly beneficial for regional peace and stability.”
He emphasized that China will continue to prioritize its relationship with Pakistan. “China has consistently placed Pakistan at the forefront of its neighbourhood diplomacy,” the statement further indicated.
“Despite challenges, Pakistan–China relations have grown even stronger,” Wang remarked, emphasizing the resilience of the bilateral relationship.
“China will maintain its full support for Pakistan in safeguarding its regional integrity and national security,” Wang stated, welcoming Pakistan’s growing engagement in global affairs.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Field Marshal Asim Munir referred to China as Pakistan’s “iron brother,” emphasizing that both countries have consistently shared moments of both joy and sorrow.
He described the strategic partnership between the two countries as “as solid as a rock,” and affirmed that maintaining close ties with China represents the united stance of the entire Pakistani nation.
The army chief conveyed his appreciation to the Chinese leadership for their valuable contributions to Pakistan’s economic and social progress.
He assured the Chinese side of Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to enhancing counter-terrorism efforts and security cooperation.
“Efforts will be sustained to ensure the protection of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions within Pakistan,” the Chinese foreign ministry relayed, quoting COAS Munir.
The army chief also pledged continued support for strengthening the bond between Pakistan and China and promoting progress through mutual collaboration.
