Pakistan and Iran Collaborate to Combat Terrorism, Strengthen Border Security

Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their dedication to eradicating terrorism and enhancing security collaboration along their shared border regions.

This pledge was conveyed during a phone conversation between Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, according to a statement released by the Iranian embassy.

According to IRNA, the Iranian state news agency, the Iranian army chief stated Tehran’s willingness to collaborate with Islamabad to eliminate terrorism and safeguard the mutual border.

He also conveyed his sympathy to the people in Pakistan affected by floods, stating that Iran would readily provide any support within its capabilities to its “brothers in Pakistan.”

The Iranian commander lauded Pakistan’s backing of Tehran during the recent conflict, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between the two nations on multiple fronts.

Earlier in the month, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Pakistan for two days, seeking to reinforce bilateral relations.

The Iranian president, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, engaged in discussions with Pakistan’s leadership and addressed the Pakistan-Iran Business Forum in Islamabad.

Both countries formalized 12 agreements and MoUs to foster cooperation across various sectors during President Pezeshkian’s visit.

These agreements encompassed plant protection and quarantine, joint utilization of the Mirjaveh-Taftan border crossing, collaboration in science and technology, ICT, cultural and media exchanges, meteorology, maritime safety, judicial assistance, air services, product certification, and a tourism cooperation plan for 2025–27.

During a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and his Iranian counterpart, both parties concurred that peace and prosperity in their border regions were contingent upon effectively countering terrorism.

In a joint press briefing with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pezeshkian stated that both nations agreed to bolster border security for the well-being of their citizens.

The prime minister noted that both countries shared the view that terrorism could not be tolerated under any circumstances, stating that an act of terrorism against Iran is the same as an act of terror against Pakistan. He added that the two nations would implement measures to eradicate terrorism.
